My story

After a lifelong interest in natural health, I finally brought balance to my own life by leaving a stressful advertising career to study Nutritional Therapy for 3 years at the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM) in London. My corporate background  means I understand how a full-on work life can negatively impact on well-being and how important it is to use clinical nutrition and an integrated approach to health to support yourself.

In addition to running my private practice, Nourishing by Nature in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, I am a member of Harley Street’s The Nutrition Coach team and I have worked as the head Nutritional Therapist for HAPI Nutrition. I have also supervised final year student clinics at CNM and I work as a product consultant for Neal’s Yard Remedies and DoTerra Essential Oils

I am  a fully insured and practising member of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and my thorough naturopathic training and approach means I am registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) for both nutritional therapy and naturopathy.  I a member of The Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) and The Association of Systematic Kinesiologists-UK (TASK-UK) and a Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor.

Though I work with everyone from babies to adults with a wide range of health issues and health goals, having personally overcome fertility problems, my special interest lies in female hormone imbalances, in optimising fertility and pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause, autoimmunity and improving digestive health.  My promise to you

For a successful and rewarding journey to optimal health it is important that we work together as equal partners. I therefore promise that I will treat you with respect at all times; I will never judge you or your food choices; we will take things at your own speed;  I will listen and tailor any programme so it fits in with your lifestyle, budget and commitments and any information you share with me will be confidential. Lastly and most importantly I promise to provide you with the information, tools and encouragement to empower you to take responsibility for nourishing yourself to vitality whilst providing ongoing support as you make long-term positive changes.

 My ten core beliefs

The way I will work with you is based on the following beliefs and fundamentals of Functional Medicine

  • Health is much more than absence of disease: To be truly healthy is to have a positive vitality and not merely the absence of disease.
  • Each person’s journey to health is unique: We are all biochemically individual due to our genetics and unique environmental exposures.  I will  hence use careful assessment to determine your individual needs and to create tailor-made programmes that nourish you both physically and emotionally
  • An integrative, science-based healthcare approach is the most affective. My Functional Medicine approach involves looking “upstream” to consider the complex web of interactions in your history, physiology, and lifestyle that has led to imbalance. Your unique genetic makeup will be considered, along with both internal (mind, body, and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect your total functioning.
  • Nature holds the answer:   Naturopathically trained, I believe that the closer to nature we are the healthier and more balanced we become. All my recommendations will be therefore centre on the most natural solution possible. This will include wholefoods and natural nutritional supplements alongside other naturopathic tools such as herbs, flower essences and homeopathy.
  • Restrictive and quick fix dietary regimes don’t work: Unless I feel you have a food allergy, intolerance or particularly complex health issue, I will not tell you that you can never eat your favourite foods again because I  know restricted diets usually end in a vicious circle of guilt and failure. Instead I aim to help you eat intuitively and find a balance between eating for pleasure and health. Over time I help you conclude that they are both one and the same thing so you end up with a healthy attitude to food that is yours for life!
  • Evidence is paramount: My aim is that, where possible, recommendations I make are founded on evidence-based research. Functional Medicine is not a unique and separate body of knowledge. It is grounded in scientific principles and information widely available in medicine today, combining research from various disciplines into  clinically relevant models.
  • Knowing what to eat is not enough I understand that relationships with food can be complex and use my nutritional expertise and understanding of behaviour, acquired from my psychology degree, to help you with how to make changes. Together we will create a dietary programme for you based on easy to follow, step by step changes. You will be amazed how such simple and gradual changes can dramatically improve your wellbeing.
  • Nourishing NutritionPrevention is key: Poor nutritional balance and lifestyle can be at the root cause of many health problems and chronic disease. By helping you to make long-term dietary and lifestyle change I aim to help you maintain optimal health on on-going basis. All solutions will be investigated focusing on prevention through nutrition, diet, and exercise; use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques; and prescribed combinations of botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques.
  • A holistic approach is the answer:  Our bodies cannot be separated from our  mind and emotions and hence  there is a fundamental truth in the saying ‘a healthy body a healthy mind’ and vice versa’.  I will view you as a whole person and where needed will use various mindfulness techniques to help you make positive changes always looking to balance both body and mind.
  • There is always more to learn:  Finally I take my continued professional development very seriously and attend numerous lectures and seminars annually to keep me up to speed with the latest developments and research in the field of nutrition and Functional Medicine.  I am a graduate of The Institute of Functional Medicine’s (IFM) Advanced Practice Module – Gastrointestinal covering digestive problems including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In 2018 I graduated from the IFM’s Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice course. In 2021 I completed the IFM’s Advanced Practice Module – Immunology which focuses on how best to support clients with immune disorders including autoimmunity, inflammatory disorders and those suffering from allergies, sensitivities and atopy such as asthma and eczema. In  2022 I completed the IFM’s Advanced Practice Module – Hormone Health which looks in depth at female and male hormonal imbalances including adrenal imbalances and stress, PMS and menstrual irregularities, PCOS, endometriosis, puberty and menopause. In 2023 I completed IFMs Advanced Practice Module – Bioenergetics which includes supporting clients with chronic fatigue, long COVD, headaches, migraines, anxiety and depression.
